If Mr. Stevenson's quote is right, then what about the quote "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched"? Brick wall d'oh!

I guess we should be careful on picking the right variety of seeds, plus the consideration on how we are going to plant it and where exactly. As the simple case for it, the intention is what counts and not how it will be in the end.

There's time for the seeds, there's time for the harvest - so don't confuse them with each other...

There is little harvest to be reaped when the planting of seeds fell onto sterile ground.

Last year I planted beautiful flowers in the flowerbed outside my front window. The planting ended up being outstanding enough for me to win a neighborhood beautification award for curb appeal. This year, I did the same thing, but apparently a alley cat decided it was attractive enough to become its litter box, so it regularly started to poop in it. And after pooping, the cat would attempt to cover up its poop by scratching its hind legs in my fertile soil. This caused some of my prized plants to be dug before they could even take root. So I had to put up wire and sprinkle mothballs to keep the cat away. Because it took several days for me to get my defenses in place, while working at it I had the opportunity to observe some of my neighbors' plantings. Before this year, none of them had ever planted flowers in the front of their house before. I like to think they do so now because the seeds I planted beautified my house so that they wanted the same for their houses. So, even though the cat interfered with the plants I planted reaching their full splendor (harvest), the mental seeds I sowed that most likely inspired my neighbors gave me great satisfaction.

I found that this just matches with Buddhism's teaching about to focus on what one's doing at the moment and that what ones encounter are the simply result of what ones did (both in this life and previous lives)...

So wisely said and so true.

Be very careful when you plant the seeds, don't try to dig the same hole deeper. Boo hoo!
