Death is a stark reality and life is pursuing it since it's birth.

A tough life is better than no life, in my opinion.
That said, Dr. Kevorkian was correct...an individual should always be free to decide.
It's a matter of dignity, and a person's un/willingness to suffer unduly.

In my opinion, Death is the ultimate examination (and the ultimate reality), and the whole life is a course preparing for it. The second half of Mark Twain's quote also echoes the same thought.

One who accepts the ups and downs of real life, learns from them everyday, is a serious student who is not afraid of the final examination, and is ever prepared. Perhaps, such a person conquers death, while death conquers the others, who are not prepared and are afraid of death.

This is what you will find in small print at the bottom of the letter the NHS have sent to tell you that your operation has been postponed for yet another year.

this simply means that those who live to young to not see many winters compared to those who have seen a lot some have lived a full life but those who die young have not lived at all this simply means life is for the living so live

A physician is supposed to cure you in order to keep you alive and kicking. I do not think the concept of Death is in any way analogous to it; no matter how sweet or sensible G. Eliot's words may be.

I, for one, think that those who are never serious about their preparations and "homework", let it call so, do not fear "the ultimate examination" because they are ignorant and heedless of what is happening to them and people around hence their life is just a boring episode in the whole series of humanity that is merely forgotten and not paid thorough attention to.

I like the Twain quote posted by Paven.

Being in Hospice care now I know Twain is right. My husband and I enjoyed a great, well traveled life together. My comfort comes from the Great Physician, God.

It seems that with all current opinions; the passed youth lived a full life or experience that prepared them for their time".

Contest of the quote from : GEORGE ELIOT'S LIFE VOL. III.— SUNSET

"Our finest hope is finest memory"

Letter to Madame Bodichon, 2d Oct. 1876.

We got home again last Friday, much strengthened by our journey, notwithstanding vicissitudes. I suppose you will not be in town for ages to come, but I let you know that I am here in case you have anything to say to me by letter—about "objects."

After leaving Ragatz we still kept in eastern Switzerland, in high valleys unvisited by the English; and in our homeward line of travel we paused in the Schwarzwald at St. Blasien, which is a Luft-kur, all green hills and pines, with their tops as still as if it were the abode of the gods.

But imagine how we enjoy being at home again in our own chairs, with the familiar faces giving us smiles which are not expecting change in franc pieces!

We are both pretty well, but of course not cured of all infirmities. Death is the only physician, the shadow of his valley the only journeying that will cure us of age and the gathering fatigue of years. Still we are thoroughly lively and "spry."

I hope that the hot summer has passed agreeably for you and not been unfavorable to your health or comfort. Of course a little news of you will be welcome, even if you don't particularly want to say anything to me.

My blessing on you for your sweet letter, which I count among the blessings given to me. Yes. Women can do much for the other women (and men) to come. My impression of the good there is in all unselfish efforts is continually strengthened. Doubtless many a ship is drowned on expeditions of discovery or rescue, and precious freights lie buried. But there was the good of manning and furnishing the ship with a great purpose before it set out.

I am no pessimist and will fight to the end any battle our destiny may offer, but I cannot help regarding death as the and of suffering.

Only natural death is a given just as our birth is a given. All other types of death are murder. If we want to be totally truthful!

And the Man´s Death is perhaps, nothing else that to stop nude in the Wind and dissolve oneself under the Rays of Sun? (read in a tombstone)
