Boy Scouts of America Founded

One of the largest youth organizations in the US is the Boy Scouts of America, which promotes community service and character building. The scouts' activities aim at mental, moral, and physical development, stressing outdoor skills and training in citizenship and lifesaving. Scouts receive recognition in the form of merit badges and awards. The basic scout unit is a troop of about 15 boys, under the leadership of an adult scoutmaster. Neil Armstrong was an Eagle Scout and the first person to walk on the moon.

they were not all Eagle Scouts. While at least forty astronauts earned the rank as a youth Eagle scouts, in fact only two Apollo moonwalkers did: Neil Armstrong and Charles Duke.

Of the 312 pilots and scientists selected as astronauts since 1959, at least 207 have been identified as having been Scouts or active in Scouting. The list includes 39 Eagle Scouts, 25 Life Scouts, 14 Star Scouts, 26 First Class Scouts, 17 Second Class Scouts, 13 Tenderfoot Scouts, 3 Explorers, 25 Cub Scouts, 10 Webelos Scouts, 1 King’s Scout, 2 Wolf Scouts, and 32 with unknown ranks, including 27 who were Girl Scouts.

Of the 24 men to travel to the moon on the Apollo 9 through Apollo 17 missions , 21 were Scouts, including 10 of the 12 men who physically walked on the moon's surface, and all three members of the crew of Apollo 13. Three travelled to the Moon twice.

All three of the astronauts who died in the Apollo 1 fire, four of the seven who died in the Challenger launch explosion, and five of the seven who died in the Columbia re-entry explosion were Scouts.

Is there any organisation involving children which is NOT tainted by cases of sexual abuse? For all the good the organisation has done, it's still a terrible blight. Shame on you

In a society where there are more one parent families than ever, children need strong role models & mentors. Applause

Scout Law
"A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."

I try.

" On October 19, 2012, the Boy Scouts of America were forced by court order to release over 20,000 pages of documentation on 1200 alleged child sexual abuse cases within the organization from between 1965 and 1985.[113]"

All the while preaching trust and honesty. Sad that nothing stays true to the good intentions.
