The Ancient City of Susa

Located about 15 miles (23 km) southwest of modern Dizful, Iran, ancient Susa was the capital of Elam and of the Persian Empire. Destroyed in the 7th century BCE, Susa was revived under the Achaemenid rulers of Persia. Excavations at Susa have uncovered the stele of Naram-sin and the code of Hammurabi, which were among many objects carried off by the Elamites from Babylonia. An unusual tomb found in the area marked by a white stone cone is believed to belong to what Biblical figure? More...

The tomb in question is believed to belong to Daniel. I was more interested to find Susa's relevance to the city of Ur (Uruk) from the Epic of Gilgamesh. It turns out, Susa is a close neighbour. I'm such a nerd!

Another interesting legendary biblical descent is mentioned in the article:

Shem (son of Noah, and patriarch of the semites) was father of Elam who in turn was father of Susan.

The correspondence of the names to Elam and Susa does not escape notice.

The man in front of the tomb of Daniel looks nearly like me in front of the tomb, of Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter.

As ever, an excellent article but I wonder; just how does the really stupid Christian right except or even begin to understand something as wonderful as this discovery, when they have it stuck within their extremely narrow "minds", that the world is only 6000 years old.
