I am venturing to start another topic and I'm hoping this one will be viewed as non-controversial. I am sure everyone has at least one guilty pleasure. I believe they show a hidden side to our personality which we would rather not admit. Here goes.

A jar of Branston pickles and a spoon.
Il Divo - for the uninformed, this is a group of young men with good voices singing schmaltzy songs.
Project Runway - reality fashion show on cable TV
An Affair to Remember - movie with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.

I would be interested to hear yours.

Watching Kylie Minogue on her live performances.

Warning people in advance that I am not a home whenever I have a superb book at hand.

Smoking just a cigarette a day with a glass of red wine.

Others that I can't name...

Oh dear, I've never told a soul about this one, because there isn't a person I know who would believe it...watching The Waltons!

...this is soooo embarassing...

Cass, I'll come clean:

1. I'm a 48 year old man that still loves to watch Bugs Bunny, and old Ren and Stimpy cartoons: current fav: "The Penguins of Madagascar".

2. I'm a healthy eater otherwise, but ever since I was a kid, I have had a sweet tooth for menthol cough-drops. Still do. My dentist loves me!

3. Sci-fi and Fantasy literature. I really don't have time for this, but, I make time! I've made the mistake of leaving a paperback unattended at work, and had to deal with the derision. I think the imagination is important. Best place to read: in the woods, preferably by a lake or stream.

4. Sun-tanning. Yep, the skin docs are unanimous...it'll kill ya! But, I'm smarter now. I wait until later in the late afternoon/early evening, and get just enough to feel it. There is no sensation like it that spells "freedom" and "relaxation" so clearly and completely for me. Well, give me the sound of far-off gulls, and of waves, and I may never go home!

5. Mid day siesta. Mentioned this in other posts. Some assume its because I was up too late our out partying the night before. Not at all....I feek renewed when I stir after a quick nap.

I admit to enjoying an occasional silly chick flick like “Sleepless in Seattle.” Of course that led me to another classic that Cass mentioned but I had not been aware of previously, “An Affair to Remember.” Both films are wonderful “guilty pleasures.” The best of all time was “The Thorn Birds” mini-series.

I don't think I have any innocent pleasures, and I'm thinking that people in general may be a bit disproportionately judgmental when it comes to other people's pleasures.

Let's see:

- Staying up late and then sleeping till noon, if possible. If not possible I may start dozing off in classes.Whistle
- Afternoon naps, if possible.
- Watching Latin American teenage soap operas (the likes of Rebelde) "because I want to learn Spanish". Well, it is partly true.
- I must say that Il Divo are great singers who produce quality music. I, on the other hand, also like Air supply (80's Australian pop-ish duo). Anxious
- Playing devils advocate even though it drives some people crazy.

There are probably a lot more that I don't remember at the moment.

True. I have serious doubts if anyone is going to reveal anything that is really guilt-worthy here.

Well, considering I can't stand the voices of most female Japanese voice actresses, hentai is typically not my cup of tea. I have watched several though, and I can say that of the ones I have watched, few are satisfying as actual porn or as a show. Animation quality is typically poor at best, story is weak, voices irritate me, not to mention Japanese fetishes are batshit crazy, to put it nicely.

I think that still frames can be nice, though, as the quality of the piece is typically far superior to something animated, and it doesn't have the weaknesses of a story or voice acting. Still have to be careful about stumbling onto fetishes though, some are absolutely disturbing and sickening.

I don't know if referring to any fetish as 'crazy' or 'sickening' is all that right. Since all of us have a darker side, punctuated by carnal desires. And these desires come in many different forms. Almost everyone some unique kind of fetish.

Well, not just any fetish is crazy or sickening. Trust me, some of them that I have stumbled across would be illegal were they performed in real life, some very disturbing stuff. I really am not going to go into details, it's not appropriate, but I will say that some fetishes (of Japanese origin) are crazy and sickening and can only be performed in animation.

I will admit at one time earlier in my life I was infatuated with Japanese culture and did a lot of research. I was exposed to a whole bunch of the darker parts of Japanese culture, and it was being exposed to this kind of stuff which made me less interested in current day Japanese culture.

Yes, because sex with trees, vines, and tentacle-y things is completely normal. O_o I love trees, don't get me wrong, but I don't LOVE TREES. Eh? I actually remember seeing a live-action tree-rape in a horror movie some long years back and going...BWHUH? Tree? Really? A tree? I truly and honestly fail to see what the tree gets out of this. (And the vines and tentacles, for that matter. It's just WEIRD. To me. Lots of people love it.)

Nothing wrong with most porn in general and I'm not adverse to it for the most part. And though I definitely have more voyeuristic tendencies than exhibitionist, I'd rather do than watch (in private, mind you). Watching mostly depresses me, oddly. They're having sex (for money and with a huge crowd of people around them telling them every little thing, so hey, not so great) and I'm not. Then again, I'm still foolish enough to want it to mean something with someone special.

And seriously? You're complaining about voice-acting in PORN? That's like complaining there's no story. *snerk*

If you heard their voices, you would probably agree with me. They sound akin to a small dog screaming bloody murder (okay, maybe not quite that bad, but you get the idea). I dunno, I don't like high-pitched screeching, it totally ruins it for me.

I'm with Cass. Project Runway I adore.
Other guilty pleasures: making lists, a very unattractive guilty pleasure but I love to make lists of things I want or things I have to do or just about anything.
I love pulling holds at the library. Holds are the books, etc. that patrons have requested from the library. Every Friday I go "pull holds." You get to see the amazing things that people WANT to read and you also get to see all the other fascinating books that the library has.

The only redeeming thing about Project Runway, in my humble opinion, is Tim Gunn. He's such a nice guy, it's hard not to like him.

Learned something new and (not so) useful yet again here.

The Japanese make porn cartoons? What's wrong with the real thing captured on film? Kinda weird.

Then again, they took cooking, a pleasurable, relaxing passion, and turned it into a blood and tension grudge cage match with "Iron Chef"....so

I should not be surprised.

Yes, I've learnt something new also.

I can't say I feel guilty about my pleasures, I don't hurt anyone so there is no guilt attached.

I do have a wardrobe full of shoes of all colours and some may never come out of the box, but I loved them when I saw them and just had to have them.

They make a lot of both real and cartoon porn (which comes in both animated and comic book format, as well as interactive games). Animated series are exceptionally popular out in Japan, and probably outnumber the amount aired in America about 20:1, so it is natural that there became a demand for porn in such a format.

There are some pleasures, which from time to time make me feel guilty. I drink a lot of coffee, so after at least a few mugs of delicious black 'nectar', I'm to blame myself that I cannot fight with that addiction. Every time I make a promise to myself that I will limit a number of cups, but it just does not work. I guess that's why I'm glad when I can read articles about a coffee's salutary influence on health. ;-) Yeah, I know, it's far-fetched, but it makes me feel better.

I can't force myself to stop reading a book or any interesting stuff, if it is captivating. That way, I'm reading almost all the time. My family says that I'm addicted to written letters, though sometimes it does not sound like a merit. I created a list of books to read, paradoxically many of them still remain unread due to a lack of enough spare time.
