apogee

(noun) The farthest or highest point; the apex.

Synonyms: summit, height, peak, climax, pinnacle, zenith, acme

Usage: It took many years for the industry to reach its apogee, but only a few more for it to become defunct.

The only time I've come across this word before was when we sang Britten's Gloriana Choral Dances.

If you listen carefully you'll hear 'Time is at His apogee' sang several times in the first piece.

Here are the words:

Yes, he is Time,
Lusty and blithe!
Time is at his apogee!
Although you thought to see
A bearded ancient with a scythe.
No reaper he
That cries "Take heed!"
Time's at his apogee!
Young and strong, in his prime:
Behold the sower of the seed!

(That's not my choir by the way- we're not that good I'm afraid.)

The piece takes a little getting used to, but do try and persevere to the last, beautiful section. It is, actually, brilliantly written and sits very comfortably on the voice- a very enjoyable piece to sing.

Apologee - the zenith of repentance for poor spelling.

The Moon is at its closest point to Earth (perigee) or its farthest (apogee).
The difference between a perigee full moon and an apogee full moon is noticeable when you compare images side by side, but without comparison you can’t tell the difference.

A Momentary Lapse in Care

Stonewalled at sunset.
Here, I am free from regret.
This moment of perceptual altitude,
Freedom from my anxious servitude.

The apogee has been reached,
I have little doubt,
These still moments pass.

One must always strive to reach their apogee in all endeavor's, and if not reached at first attempts, try, try again. Tis the struggle to reach that apogee that is what is important, as much as reaching that goal itself....
