Confucius's Birthday

This is a time to commemorate the birth of the teacher Confucius, perhaps the most influential man in China's history. In Qufu, Shandong Province, China, the birthplace of Confucius, there is a two-week-long Confucian Culture Festival. During the Cultural Revolution in the late 1960s, Red Guards defaced many of the buildings in Qufu. They have since been restored, and the festival held there attracts scholars from China and abroad. The festival opens with a ceremony accompanied by ancient music and dance and includes exhibitions and lectures on the life and teachings of Confucius. More...

Ah the wisdom of Confucius.
Confucius say: virginity is like a balloon, one prick & it's gone.
Confucius say: man who go through airport turnstiles sideways is probably going to Bangkok.

Confucius basically said that this would be a wonderful world if everyone kept his place:

Children should obey their parents.

Wives should obey their husbands.

Husbands should obey the government.

The government should obey God.

In today's world, people are completely out of control: we see that in the rudeness and boorishness of so many people in real life -- and on the Internet.

Even the so-called communists in China are once again interested in the Master, for it is reported that many younger Chinese are no longer so respectful to their elders.

Even Confucius will crack up and will definitely take you as his student if not his teacher.

You are exactly right. The power that be at Confucian time don't see the goodness in his teaching, and he was not the fashion he was later on. Only after he is gone emperors saw how good his teaching is for governance, and promote his teaching to another extreme, and it's like his teaching is more sacred than laws: emperor has in his hands the life of his underling, husband is the master of his wife. It is not bad to throw away his teaching for a while (say 80 years) and take another look at his teaching. Maybe it's not his fault his teaching is abused. He is part of the reasons why China is still governed not by law but by man, and CCP can still do what it's doing today.

So based on how the power that was had abused his teaching, I am sure Confucian will join NeuroticHellFem and socratoad, make a few really wise crack himself.

Confucius would most likely be surprised that anything he said during his life is remembered. It's that scary moment your child reminds you of something you said or worse did twenty years earlier. The Confucius five should be part of everyone's life....and that does include the great humor.

Confucius was one of the many innovative thinkers who responded to a prevalent sense of crisis engendered by the chaotic sociopolitical situation. He sought to revive Chinese society and shore up its ethical foundations by reforming the system of government, largely by infusing it with proper ritual and moral frameworks, modeled on those purportedly established by the ancient sages.

Establishing the Foundations of Confucian Morality

The main concerns of Confucius and the central tenets of his thought converged on the perfection of human conduct in this life, which was to be cultivated within a communal context, involving interacting with other people in an appropriate manner and gracefully mastering the intricacies of complex webs of social relationships. The two principal virtues and fundamental concepts in the moral teachings of Confucius are ritual (li) — understood in the sense of ritual propriety — and benevolence (ren). For him these two virtues served as indispensible foundations for proper human conduct. When perfected and enacted in the public arena with genuine sincerity, they naturally bring about positive social transformation. The two go together and reinforce each other: a good person who manifests benevolence in all his acts is a person whose behavior is in perfect accord with ritual.

I have often have asked myself why the pseudo-Christian world and the radical Muslim peoples do not choose Confucius as someone to emulate: Answer, both do not nor cannot except the teachings of their "chosen" prophets, as they prefer to steal the life from those that are weaker and do so enjoy the using of force....
