When the mother of the race is free, we shall have a better world, by the easy right of birth and by the calm, slow, friendly forces of evolution. Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860-1935)

''As Muhammad Ali has said, we are all victims of the same system of oppression.'' Martin Luther King told the newsmen. Ali nodded, gave the older, shorter man's rounded shoulders an affectionate squeeze and called him ''brother''. — The Mammoth Book of Muhammad Ali (The Greatest Boxer)

Can we finally stop this endless discussions about races? People kill each other without having any race differences. Race discrimination is bad but so is killing your own kin. Liberals, you are simply boring.

BasiaB, I'm so sorry we are boring you. However, there is a very easy solution. You can stop reading these discussions as I highly doubt you are being forced to do so.

There's no linear dependence between freedom and betterment of this world, and freedom without responsibility certainly endangered it. There's no easy way out...

How wise! She was ahead of her time, but if it weren't for her maybe the women's movement would be still striving for the freedoms eventually won in the 1960s/70s. There is still inequality, but we're so much closer. I'm glad I can vote, legally own property, & choose to marry or not. Her struggle took a toll & I thank her. Quote:She is perhaps best known for her semiautobiographical short story The Yellow Wallpaper (1890), which describes a woman's nervous breakdown. Incurably ill, she committed suicide.

An insightful discussion is ruined by several who cannot go past black and white.

The quote in context: From "Women and Economics" Chapter 15, Page. 167 By Charlotte Perkins [Stetson] Gilman (1860-1935) ....... "Yet here, as in the other evil results of the sexuo-economic relation, we can see the accompanying good that made the condition necessary in its time; and we can follow the beautiful results of our present changes with comforting assurance. A healthy, normal moral sense will be ours, freed from its exaggerations and contradictions; and, with that clear perception, we shall no longer conceive of the ethical process as something outside of and against nature, but as the most natural thing in the world. Where now we strive and agonize after impossible virtues, we shall then grow naturally and easily into those very qualities; and we shall not even think of them as especially commendable. Where our progress hitherto has been warped and hindered by the retarding influence of surviving rudimentary forces, it will flow on smoothly and rapidly when both men and women stand equal in economic relation. When the mother of the race is free, we shall have a better world, by the easy right of birth and by the calm, slow, friendly forces of social evolution."Worthy reading, special for us women : http://classiclit.about.com/library/bl-etexts/cpgilman/bl-cpgilman-womeneco-15.htm

When are women never free; we will always be the undershadow of a man! Maybe we need to be rid of all men.

And if there are no more men, there are no women either in the future; and therefore the end of the human race. Maybe you don't need me and I don't need you but as a species woman needs man and man needs woman

Unfortunately, too many people are confusing The HUMAN race (which is a collective term for all humans) with racial differences within the species.
