Kellogg-Briand Pact Signed (1928)

The Kellogg-Briand Pact was an agreement between the US and France to renounce war and seek settlement of disputes by peaceful means. It took its name from US Secretary of State Frank B. Kellogg and French foreign minister Aristide Briand. Sixty other nations ultimately ratified the pact, but it made no provision for measures against aggressors and proved ineffective, especially given the practice of waging undeclared wars in the 1930s. What role did it play in the Nuremberg Trials? More...

Notably, the pact served as the legal basis for the creation of the notion of crime against peace – it was for committing this crime that the Nuremberg Tribunal sentenced a number of people responsible for starting World War II.

Principles of International Law Recognized in the Charter of the
Nürnberg Tribunal and in the Judgment of the Tribunal
1950

Principle I

"Any person who commits an act which constitutes a crime under international law is
responsible therefor and liable to punishment."

Immediately after the conclusion of World War II, Allied forces and specifically the United States War Department began planning a trial to prosecute German war criminals. Basing the legitimacy of an international war court on the 1928 Kellogg-Briand pact that prohibited war against peaceful countries, the United States developed the idea of “aggression” as a war crime. While the United States met with great resistance from the French and Soviet delegates, aggression charges, formally known as "crimes against peace," were ultimately included as one of many criminal charges in the Nuremberg Trial.

If in fact this document has any validity what-so-ever: "Notably, the pact served as the legal basis for the creation of the notion of crime against peace – it was for committing this crime that the Nuremberg Tribunal sentenced a number of people responsible for starting World War II." Then how can people like X-President G.W. Bush and V.P. Dick Cheney be allowed to walk about freely upon the face of this earth? Just how many lives must be forfeited in Iraq before the world prosecutes these 2 men for crimes against humanity?

To date, there have been more then 1 million lives lost in and because of the Iraq invasion, which was based upon the lies of Bush and Cheney created.

When I first saw the word Kellogg I was thinking about Tony the Tiger from the cereal boxes, until I read the article and it had nothing to do with cereal what so ever... :)
