America owes most of its social prejudices to the exaggerated religious opinions of the different sects which were so instrumental in establishing the colonies.

And the development of most of the sciences and arts, law and order in society, and just about everything else comes from the churches which opened up this land!

It is easy to sling mud at religion, but we tend to forget that our entire culture was built upon the bulwark of Christianity.

Inherent tribalism misdirected from principles like honor, justice, decency, care, fairness, American Constitution, Natural Law, etc...

That's true, but we usually forget it.

Now, when the US is an established world power, all its prejudices have an international scale. "When the US sneezes, everyone gets a cold." And when the US gets a cold, then who knows what happened next?

“Religion is an insult to human dignity. Without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” Steven Weinberg

I say today it owes its social prejudices to the continued adherence to social prejudices that benefit both perpetrator and victim.

Religiosity in the US is difficult to bear.

The quote in context:
From The American Democrat (1838) On Prejudice:

Prejudice is the cause of most of the mistakes of bodies of men. It influences our conduct and warps our judgment, in politics, religion, habits, tastes and
opinions. We confide in one statesman and oppose another, as often from unfounded antipathies, as from reason; religion is tainted with uncharitableness and hostilities, without examination; usages are contemned; tastes ridiculed, and we decide wrong, from the practice of submitting to a preconceived and an
unfounded prejudice, the most active and the most pernicious of all the hostile agents of the human mind.
The migrator' propensities of the American people, and the manner in which the country has been settled by immigrants from all parts of the christian world,
have an effect in diminishing prejudices of a particular kind, though, in other respects, few nations are more bigoted or provincial in their notions.
Innovations on the usages connected with the arts of life are made here with less difficulty than common, reason, interest and enterprise proving too strong for prejudice; but in morals, habits and tastes, few nations have less liberality to boast of, than this.
America owes most of its social prejudices to the exaggerated religious opinions of the different sects which were so instrumental in establishing the colonies. The Quakers, or friends, proscribed the delightful and elevated accomplishment of music, as, indeed, did the puritans, with the exception of psalmody.

So does Turkey, except that we don't even have a federal system, which could prevent social unrest resulting from these prejudices by allowing local social structures.

Anxious I was just going to say that prejudices are wrong. A little different from 'first impressions'.
