Hello again!

I know that there are certain countries that legalized prostitution. I don't have the exact updated list though. But I am curious to know if it is legal in your country right now?

Has it been an issue? or just seem to be part of the norms?

Though it's not legal to some I know it still exist, but not certain how law works.

Thank you again for sharing!

There is only one place I know of in the U.S. where prostitution is legal, and that is in the state of Nevada, in the western part of the country. Every other place has prostitution, but whether law enforcement does anything about it seems to depend on how many of the wealthy use the services, or (in varying amounts) the amount of crime associated with it, creating a political photo-opportunity, or to appear tough on crime, as it's an easy target.

The legal business is called the "Moonlight Bunny Ranch", and has been in operation for many years. You can find it on the internet, if interested.

Here is a quote from one source:

"Opened in 1955 and it's owned now by Dennis Hof, the Moonlite BunnyRanch is a legal brothel in Mound House, Nevada and is one of the most famous brothels in the USA.

Its address is 69 Moonlight Road and even its telephone number ends in 3825, which spells out F-U-*-K on a telephone pad.

Girls earn about $5,000 - $7,500 per month "working" 12-14 hours a day.

Edited to add: I have no personal knowledge of this particular establishment, by the way...*ahem*

Well, if it's employment that you're seeking, in that storied niche of the hospitality industry, then I might know someone...Whistle

As to your question on the legality of said trade amongst the nations of the world then I only know that the de facto reality is a highly circumstantial proposition de jure; ethics notwithstanding.

Ye gods! Those girls are working 12 to 14 hour shifts. No wonder so many girls do it just for a short time (sometimes even to raise money for college).

I find that breathtaking. To work any kind of job for 14 hours out of every 24 would be terrible. One would become an automaton.

Working as a prostitute in private is legal in Britain, though soliciting and running a brothel are not. 'In private' covers both the provider's premises and the client's.

In the state of Nevada. Hope it doesn't become legal anywhere else.

*Laughing* Well, they aren't "working" that whole length of time, just present and available to many customers for, ummm..., other activities, as might be required.

Each lady only serves 3 to 4 customers per day (as in "full service", if I recall correctly). There are also restrictions on them as to when they can go into town, and some others I cannot now recall.

A TV show was made about the Ranch that details much of the life there. It could likely be found with a search, if interested. I found it both interesting, and disturbing at the same time when I first saw it.

Also, they are earning three to five times as much as I earn for twelve hour shifts.

Foundit - well thank goodness for your intimate knowledge of brothels, mate! (No, seriously, I AM going to try to find that vid.)

Am relieved to know the poor women aren't simply lying there calling out "Next, please", anyway.

Yeah, Drago, I know the money is good. So is the money in off-shore oil-rigs...but the workers are rostered on and then off for substantial periods because of the long hours and heavy work. A 14 hour shift of intense physical action, stifled repugnance and having to play a part would also be heavy work.

But now Foundit has explained that one doesn't spend the whole time servicing clients it's not quite so bad.

Romany,

I think I saw it under the name of Cathouse, The Series, or something like that - it was years ago.

This is from an article on the Ranch from Wikipedia:

"There is a historical marker on the premises, found just inside of the property's original main gate, as the ranch is located near a stop on the original Pony Express"

Make up your own joke, here.

A few years ago, the governor of the state of New York criticized johns (customers of prostitutes). He said that johns were encouraging human trafficking. He promised to severely punish johns. Activists were ecstatic at his tough line. They thought that he was the greatest thing since the invention of sliced bread.

Of course, a little later, it was discovered that the governor had been flying to Washington, D.C., on a regular basis in order to meet his favorite sex worker.

If political campaigning is legal I don't see why other forms of prostitution shouldn't be.

In Australia prostitution is semi legal, more like 'don't ask, don't tell', the laws change from State to State.

Street prostitution is not acceptable near a child care centre, school, residential area or a church, however brothels advertise in the news papers

and every one knows where they are, usually in industrial areas where their clients would work.

Thinking in that manner, straight marriage would also be a type of legal prostitution.

It has been and still an issue in Canada. At the moment it's illegal.

Anyone who wants a serious, non-hysterical, rational discussion about sex workers will want to read "Blame it on the management" by Ms. Katrina Forrester in the July 3, 2014, issue of the London Review of Books. (I assume that it is also online.)

It is a two-page review of a new book entitled Playing the Whore: The Work of Sex Work by Ms. Melissa Gira Grant.

Even if that were true, how would it be 'legal prostitution'.

In any case many heterosexual couples get married with the firm intention of not having a family. Is that 'legal prostitution'?

If this is the most loathsome thing you have encountered on the internet, I would strongly suggest you either give away, or sell, you computer before you really come across loathsome on the internet.

Sarah -

Though it might not translate very well, the remark Absurdicuss made that you object to was, as was noted, "just a piece of tomfoolery"...as signalled by the "tongue-in-cheek" icon. He didn't mean any disrespect.

I hadn't seen Nish's answer and Abs's post when I posted my remark, though it still seems to me a bit rude..

If you think this is such a wonderful job, why don't you go for it, Khalid? If not, perhaps your mother or your daughters or your sisters would be interested. I'm sure all of you would be very happy in this "wonderful job".

Childlessness = prostitution? Truly bizarre thinking.
