Ideas live on because people share them through the ages. Whether that sharing takes place through the spoken word, through books, or through various other media, it is people who must spark the idea, bring it to fruition, and then pass it on through the ages. Were it not for people and nations of people, ideas would be passed on much as they are with apes, dogs and snails--not at all!

An idea not only lives on; it can get a life of its own, sadly even a new life, ...as man dies, and nations rise and fall.

Ideas only live on if people remember them. We primates have short memories, are easily distracted and fooled, and rarely learn from history. Sad, but true.

Some people are convinced that the United States is currently falling.

And many people are asking: What nation will take over as the leader of the world?

Some ideas lead to death of people, some - tear apart nations and only few worth dying for. Handle with care any idea cause it's a powerful tool and in its extreme form may be harmful or even lethal.

It depends on how practical and useful it is.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world!-Gandhi"

Lyrical poetry and epic action hardly go together. Plus, the quote is a fabrication.

I agree. The quote may promote the belief that ideas can matter in a world without nations, where the life and death issues of 'a man' don't essentially matter.

Unfortunately, metamorphosed, including failed ideas, may live on to become ideology. And men will die as nations rise and fall because of it.

Ideas must be remembered in order to be lived on.

In context :
Remarks Recorded for the Opening of a USIA Transmitter at Greenville, North Carolina.
February 8, 1963

"The years ahead hold the promise of our telling America's story to people unable to hear it now. Today the voice is strong where once it was weak. Today the Voice of America can better reach those whose masters seek to drown it out with jamming and interference. It is the truth of ideas that this new facility will communicate to an eager world.

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on. Ideas have endurance without death. In this dawn of the space age, Telstar and Relay share the future with these transmitters. Telstar and Relay cannot broadcast directly into a home, but these short-wave transmitters do."!

This is true. Ideas live on.
Every day men are dying and nations are rising and falling.
This will forever be an ongoing process.
Man long for power and control.

Fascist ideas, for example, continue to live and, apparently, will live for ever. ;)

Most people now a day ask for more hangouts. Politicians buy people votes by giving away the country.

What should live on is that which was done with an idea, the deed.

An idea is not good or bad. Right or wrong. Valuable or worthless. Realistic or fantasy. It is how that idea is acted, or not acted upon that gives it any value or merit.
