Evolutionary Theory that Packs a PunchDietary changes have long been considered the primary driver of evolutionary changes to human facial structure, but two University of Utah researchers have proposed an alternative, and much more violent, theory. They say that fistfights and not food were the driving force. Evolutionary changes to facial bone structure, they contend, have strengthened the bones most often fractured when humans, usually males of the species, brawl, thereby limiting the injuries participants sustain. More...

To paraphrase somebody's signature; 'everyone has a theory until they get punched in the face'

How amazing that so many boxers have not evolved to a higher state then! What nonsense!

It would take far more than a few generations of boxers to have any kind of selective pressure result in changes to the facial bones and cranium.
Boxers constitute a minute part of the population. What would be required would be a majority of the human population exposed to such action over an extended period of time.

I sure hope no tax dollars were spent on this one. I'm not buying it at all...

Evolutionary math doesn't add up.
The number of individual life forms required to account for the evolutionary scheme of accumulated, incremental, beneficial mutations has been calculated to exceed the number of atoms from which the earth is made.

Useless finding or guessing. I hope they are not funded by the tax money.

Notice that it is a proposed idea, not stated as fact.
Since form follows function (as can be demonstrated by virtually any tool we have invented), it logically follows that, since the skull and facial bones function to protect the brain, as the hominid brain increased from approx. 300cc to 1350cc in modern humans, the bones of the face and skull increased in size and strength to accomodate that larger brain. In fact, evidence of just the last several hundred years indicates humans are continuing to increase in body size.
