Due to political controversy the Redskins Football Club is considering dropping the name "Washington"from it's title.

It is simply absurd that in America, well into the 21st Century, that any professional sports team, could still be referencing a negative, pejorative name.

Wouldn't you agree?

What exactly, Kenneth, is it that you find offensive about the term redskins? I am pretty sure that almost no one uses it with regard to the football club with offence in mind. Why all the fuss after such a long time? Can you explain? Perhaps you will advance understanding of your view.

Ah! The offensive name, "Washington" will go! How creative of all involved. Kudos to them all!

Speaking from a non-Native-American perspective, it does seem a little overly PC to change it. From what little research I did on "redskin slang" it looks like Native Americans referred to themselves as "red skins" and whites as "white skins". Doesn't look like it was ever intended to be racist but people were a little more straight forward back then, you didn't have to tippy toe around everyone's feelings. However, it is just a football team, if it's going to come off as offensive to people, change the name.

I'm looking forward to the next "Reasonably Good Bowl" between the "Capitol Native Americans" and the "Neutrally Tinted Packaging Technicians"....Whistle

Interesting how 'offensive' finds its timely moment. We're very good at reviving negative connotations, the PC thing to do. This team has been playing football since 1932... so why now? On the other hand if native Americans want to right a (?) wrong, then it's only a name as Jeff Siemers stated. The team's record, popularity, etc won't change.

Picking up on 140's train of thought.

What is truly absurd Kenneth is the notion that a team would select as the definition of it's identity, it's rallying point, the embodiment of it's virtues, and it's excellence of character an image of ridicule to be denigrated by members and fans.

If mordant ridicule was the objective they could have chosen some obviously disparaging moniker such as the Washington Wholesome Bunch.

This Redskins hype is a cultural false flag stunt meant to distract sheepish minds from real issues.

Hats of to you Towan

The Nats might want to re-visit their Montreal days. It couldn't hurt. Mind you, the Washington Exposes might be more interesting...

And what about the Chicago Black Hawks?

Obviously they hate Native Americans, ellana, and named their team thus, to prove it.
