Our developer team just added a new game on the website. Check it out - Words Within Words is now on The Free Dictionary homepage: http://www.thefreedictionary.com.

This is one of my favorite types of word games. I like the fact that even if I log out, rather than the game resetting, it comes back at the same place where I left.
Thank you for this addition. If I win one, will I get a toaster?

Where can I find it? It doesn't show on my customized TFD page. I tried restoring content but still can't see it. Could you help me find it? Thanks :-)

On the left side of page there is a small box for Add/Restore Content.Within this box there are three options:
The Free Dictionary
Syndicated News
Miscellaneous

Click on THe Free Dictionary and here you can see the content which is displayed on your page and which is not(undisplayed content will be underlined).
If you click on the content name which is not displayed on your page or you prefer to see, will appear on your page.

Here is link for help from site:
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/_/help/help2.htm#2221.
hope this help.

We are investigating this. Are you still encountering the issue?

Which browser are you using?

Are you playing the game in English or another language?

I'm working with the word "seventh" and I've come across a few words that are in TFD, but won't work with the game. They are teh, he's, & e'en. In the case of the last two, does it have to to with the need for an apostrophe? Would there be a way around that?
Thanks.

By design, the game does not accept words with apostrophes.

"Teh" does not exist in the dictionary tab, only in the Wikipedia tab.

Neither 'née' nor 'nee' were accepted in 'obedience'!!! Both can be found in the dictionary.

We have added "nee" to the list of acceptable answers. We plan to update the list very soon.

I love the new game (it's a welcome break from the workday stress that is re-energizing for my brain!), but it's glitching on me pretty badly, though in a slightly amusing way. I'm currently playing "DECEPTION" and it's stuck on 57 words. If I refresh the page, it resets back to 57, no matter how many more words I add. I noticed this with the previous game I played as well and thought maybe a new game would resolve the issue, except it got stuck anyway. It's done this on two separate laptops.

I have also noticed that I will put in words that should be there that it won't accept. Then I tell it to reveal answers and there are many words there that I tried and it wouldn't accept. I did not keep a list at the time.

Please make sure you are not adding words you have already added. If this happens, the word will simply disappear (it will not be rejected and turn red), and the number will stay the same.

If you come across other legitimate words that are not accepted, please post them.

Thank you for that. "Nee" was another one that I couldn't get out of "seventh."
And, thanks to Norlen also.

Nope. I just tried adding "nee" and it didn't take. Perhaps again tomorrow. I'll wait.

something seems wrong with Words Within Words: I just entered the word 'the' and it was rejected. I also just did the word 'for' and was rejected. In both cases, the letters were part of the initial word...

Just checked: The initial word was 'offering' and it rejected 'for'

Now 'Desktop' rejected 'does'

Not impressed, I'm afraid. " Dynamic " rejected 'aim', but accepted 'aims', also rejected 'cam' and 'sad' and 'and', but accepted 'sic' which is Latin.

Definitely not adding words I've already added - I can jump from 57 words to 97 words but if I refresh the page, it goes right back to 57. *shrugs* Maybe it's a browser issue...will test a few ideas.

ETA: Update

So here are the first 57 words...I can add cope/nope/toe/toed as just a test run and it will add them.

Then if I refresh, it goes back to the original 57. I've tried clearing cookies and settings, but as soon as I log in here, it comes up with 57 words and stays there if I refresh.

Been having the problem that many of the extremely common words are being rejected for the last couple of days. Today i made a list

freelance does not accept car,arc,ran,elf
respect does not accept pet
isolation does not accept lions(accepts lion, also accepts loins so its not about plural), sit

Maybe this will help.

I've been playing this for a few weeks now.

The following words have been rejected, even though they a valid dictionary words. (Some are a bit naughty, though!)

-- aim aint arse bann cam cawl cine cunt decon dike elven elan ingle lune perl the thee tory taff uni vee willed

The following are suggested as answers, even though they don't seem valid English words:

-- beened cion coit debe diel donee eld keds onie vlei

Are you still playing the same game you were yesterday? If so, you will need to start a new game for the changes to propagate.

To play, use the letters in the given word to make as many new words as you can. Each letter can only be used once, and answers must be at least 3 letters long and must not be proper nouns.
