Fatty Arbuckle (1887)

Roscoe Conkling "Fatty" Arbuckle was a portly American silent film comedian. Despite his size, Arbuckle was physically adept and surprisingly agile. His comedies are known for their rollicking, fast-paced nature, and he was particularly fond of the now-famous "pie in the face" gag. Arbuckle had a lasting impact on the silent film genre and mentored stars Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. However, he is best known for his involvement in what scandal that destroyed his career? Possibly the greatest comedian ever.Applause

To be able to make you laugh until the tears ran down your face required a special gift, more so as there was no speech.

Died too soon and, unfortunately, we lost so much when he was boycotted for so long on trumped up charges.
He and Buster Keaton were brilliant in the Keystone Cops. Dancing

If only they could reproduce those hilariously funny movie clips today. Think

In September 1921, Arbuckle attended a party at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco during the Labor Day weekend. Bit player Virginia Rappe became drunk and ill at the party; she died four days later at a sanitarium known for performing abortions. Arbuckle was accused by a well known madam of raping and accidentally killing Rappe. Arbuckle endured three widely publicized trials for manslaughter. His films were subsequently banned and he was publicly ostracized.

Poor Arbuckle was the victim of a ambitious district attorney who aspired to the governorship. Nice.
Still down to today, those at the top never have to answer for thier crimes.
The tax payer picks up the tap for these immoral public servants when the prosecuted sues the state for the witch hunt.

At the hospital, Rappe's companion at the party, Bambina Maude Delmont, told Rappe's doctor that Arbuckle had raped her friend. The doctor examined Rappe but found no evidence. Rappe died one day after her hospitalization of peritonitis, caused by a ruptured bladder. Delmont then told police that Arbuckle raped Rappe, and the police concluded that the impact Arbuckle's overweight body had on Rappe eventually caused her bladder to rupture.[1] Rappe's manager Al Semnacker (at a later press conference) accused Arbuckle of using a piece of ice to simulate sex with her, which led to the injuries.[17] By the time the story was reported in newspapers, the object had evolved into being a Coca-Cola or champagne bottle, instead of a piece of ice. In fact, witnesses testified that Arbuckle rubbed the ice on Rappe's stomach to ease her abdominal pain. Arbuckle denied any wrongdoing. Delmont later made a statement incriminating Arbuckle to the police in an attempt to extort money from Arbuckle's attorneys.[18]
