Thank you TFD and all well wishers. Pakistan Day is being celebrated today. The day started with gun salutes in the federal and provincial capitals. The national flag was hoisted and change of guard ceremony was held at the tomb of national poet Allama Muhammad. The military parade held at the newly constructed Parade Ground after a gap of 7 yrs was the hallmark of the day.

Pakistan celebrates Republic Day with Military Parade: Pakistan’s Quagmire

Monday’s Republic Day celebrations and military parade were held under tight security with cell-phone networks closed down to thwart attempts to explode improvised explosive devices via cell-phones.

The first military parade on Republic Day comes after the recent, gruesome Taliban attack that resulted in the death of 132 school children.

Over the past two years Pakistan’s military has launched campaigns in attempts to dislodge Taliban insurgents and other militants from the north-western tribal regions in North Waziristan and Khyber. Attending the military parade, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that:

“Pakistan is resolved to redeem its pledge given to its founding fathers that will protect the homeland”.
