Well, I'm not sure whether I understand you correctly but there is the Morse Code, Semaphore, Braille, sign language, musical notation, traffic signs or emoticons (d'oh! Whistle Shame on you Brick wall etc. ) which are understood in many parts of the world.

I'm sure there are many more.
