hard-bitten

(adjective) Tough and callous by virtue of experience.

Synonyms: hard-boiled, pugnacious

Usage: He graduated from college a naïve idealist, but just a few years of chasing down stories had turned him into a cynical, hard-bitten journalist.

Poor darling, I wouldn't call a journalist as 'being at the coal face' but life does beat you about the head and throw you back out there. Thats life.

"Life's not about how hard of a hit you can give...
it's about how many you can take, and still keep moving forward.
Still keep moving forward..."

Sounds about right.

Assuming he was foolish enough to become a journalist. Most people would be smart enough to figure out, you only have to agitate one of them, to get all of them to come *after you which -- as an experience -- is not unlike pissing off an high level intelligence officer.

IFF he was only seeking women with a sharp mind (without realizing that "sharp" minds make for a vicious tongue) there are much easier ways to do it, than to become a journalist.

*after = not the sequential after that is alluded to in the biblical sense of the word

ZOMG!

Was it a blue-eyed palomino-colored horse named Zeus from Dixonville, Oregon!!?? (in between Roseburg and Glide)

I give you my word that horse not only bit me, but he did it by running up along side a moving, large cab-over flatbed truck I was driving and poked his head in through the window!

It was a full on bite using his teeth with his lips curled back!

I was delivering a rear axle assembly for a 3/4ton Chevy truck and once outside the truck I had to continuously turn around and stand up to keep him from slowly sneaking up behind me! Which I give you my word he would back away and then let out a quick and evil sounding horse giggle

Song of the Working Man

Easy is the life for me
In the lap of luxury.

Let others work.
I'll be a jerk.

Peel me a grape, Beulah!
