A combination of TFD itself showing up in the Acronyms topic and the need for me to mention my "online English language forum" in casual conversation with my son on more than one occasion has brought to my attention the need for a less clumsy way to refer to "The Free Dictionary Language Forums." TFDLF lacks panache in my view, and besides, with any acronym I'm tempted to write "the TFDLF" thus unwittingly duplicating the "the" and setting myself up for ridicule and justified scorn.

So far I've got: brain slurm (since, for me, these forae are like Futurama's Slurm in terms of addictiveness). But that doesn't seem specific enough. How do you refer to this here collection of scintillating forums?

"Language" is implicite, and we can refer to it as "the FDF".

I like that one and I also like JPK's suggestion of ELF, but I think it would be even better if the two were combined.

I just refer to it as the word forum. I know there are a number of similar sites, but because this is the only one I use, it works for me.

My mental ear heard FreeD Elf as Free Delf and immediately I wondered what is a Delf? I would really dislike typing
FreeD Elf very often.

I like the sound of ELF. It could, however be confused with Earth Liberation Front. So, I think I'll go with FreeD Forum

Wow, that's interesting too!! That gives an impression of an liberal or a figure freed out of imprisonment... like Aladdin's ghost... I vote for "the freed elf."

Well, it does sound a bit like "Free Delft" so maybe it would be confusing to the Dutch. Hopefully, nobody would think Farlex is giving away free Delft tiles.

FreeDELF I like the sound of that. It's singable, to the tune of the Pink Panther Theme:
"FreeDELF… FreeDELF…
FreeDELF FreeDELF FreeDELF
FreeDELF FreeDEEEEEEEELF FreeDELF FreeDELF Free…"

Or Thefredic forum?

Is there any other word similar to "forum"?

What have we set the purpose of the forum?
