For me, it's not close:

Star Trek:

So gooily korney, yet so bold and optimistic. No geek can resist:

Ohhhhhoooooo ooo ooo.....

Then, the voice of James T. Kirk intones:

These are the Voyagers of the Starship Enterprise....to boldly go, where no man has gone before!

Wow,

You have to understand, I discoverd this show on Saturday afternoon re-runs, right about the time Neal Armstrong took that little sight seeing trip to the closest rock to earth. Nothing seemed impossible. And, all those women on the Enterprise wearing those tight uniforms and rocking those thigh high boots. I wasn't sure why at the time, but that added to the heady contemplation of space travel.

And, off subject somewhat: Movie music: the scores composed for the "sphagetti westerns". Loved them all.

Just listened to Ennio Morricone's music for " Once Upon A Time In The West '. Death rattle indeed.

Same movie Ruby, but it was this particular piece I was thinking of. Much, much darker ( you know me !) :

Death Rattle

Should have entitled this thread ' coolest ' rather than ' best ', by the way.. My bad.

For activating the spooks whatever your age...

Dr Who

varies slightly with time and incarnation (ie your age, or what shows you got to watch as a child), but the original from the BBC radiophonic workshop - keys on piano wires, making their own synth, and all. All recording reel-to-reel - no mixers, all done by cutting tape and rerecording at different speeds, - a classic!

If you did not get this in the first two seconds...

(don't know if this ever made it to America?)

for opening visuals, (and to see why seventies electronic music was so bad) - pick your era:

all the opening titles 1963-2011

thar, I think these boys grew up with that tune too...

Muse - Uprising

After I posted last night my wife and I spent/wasted an hour revisiting T.V. themes - Danger Man, The Saint, The Avengers, The Persuaders, The Champions, Department S, The Prisoner...

Oddly, all our favourites were British/Eurotrash spy shows from the sixties and seventies. Go figure !

The best theme music ever. Original track from the Peter Gunn series.Applause

This is Terry Gibbs orchestra with Henry Mancini and Steve Allen. The year is 1983. "Peter Gunn" is the music with "solo's" by Pete Candoli, Conte Candoli, Carl Fontana, Jerome Richardson, and Plas Johnson. Pete did the series and the original theme with Henry Mancini years before.

If you don't like 'too much brass', there is the Blues Brothers version.Dancing

Anxious I used to hide behind the sofa when Dr. Who theme played !! Anxious

There was an American series called "Murder One" shown on British TV a few years back - the theme tune to that was stunning. Must look it up (no sound at work.....hehehe)

I can barely remember but I know he's the ingenious guy who always gets lucky escaping danger.

The TV series had lots of reruns.

MacGyver!

The music starting from 0:21 is cool.

Some old-time popular TV series, Tetsuwan Atomu and Maguma Taishi,
I watched reruns of them in the US too, years ago.

Not many British sitcoms are aired in Japan aside from pay-per-view,
but I liked this one:

Skippy the Bush Kangaroo from the 60's.
Batman (the original TV show)
... and of course Pink Panther (Mancini again ;-)

BTW, Agent 86 was produced by some Mel Brooks!

ok it may be a short version, and ok I may be a bit biased but this theme for Formula 1 is excellent - hope you find the long version by Fleetwood Mac - worth a listen

Perhaps this is a bit off track but might I offer the opportunity to experience Formula 2 that allows one to slow down and smell the coffee that's necessarily so before being capable of punching the throttle of an F1 and navigating safely around those often deceptive curves that life tends to throw at us.

Every evening 5 to 6 pm YLE broadcasts Pikku Kakkonen (Little Two) TV show for kids on our channel TWO. Channel Two usually sends lot of Sports, but whether it happens that some Ice Hockey WC, Football WC or EC, or Olympics event occurs at the same time, those broadcastings are transferred onto other channels ;-)
Pikku Kakkonen is one of the oldest series produced by YLE (Finnish national broadcasting company).
