We ought to have a pie day so that we wouldn't have to pretend to care about a mathematical constant

I can see golden ratio in bugdoctor's picture. One of phi's days I'll take a good look at the meaning of 1.618...

@ christine - sorry, post that made sense to me at the time but in hindsight - ;what is pi' was actually the video description. I like the idea of the girl complaining that a number has just been conjured up out of nowhere for her maths problem - where did it come from? I had pi drummed into me from ab initio proof, lots cirles and sines and pis all over the place!! But isn't it pi the greek letter directly? Not sure about that - I have learned all my greek alphabet (and hence half of russian alphabet) through maths and physics sympbols! but if I remember correctly, phi is Φ, φ - represents (at least) magnetic flux (Uh?), probability density distribution (Ugh!) and all sorts of angles and fields in geophysics - they really should use more letters! And grain and sieve sizes (yeay!) - I like that one, it is nice and real (pity I don't like seiving rock!)!! and since I learnt 22/7 (and this explains to me why this is pi day, which had not occurred to me (american month/day/year weirdness!): I think I will celebrate success rounded down!

thar wrote:, φ - represents (at least) magnetic flux (Uh?), φ, represents psychology, which is the study of a sort of magnetic flux I suppose.
