Usage: My mom says that I am housebound for as long as I have the chickenpox.

Conferring "housebound" status on a benefit recipient typically qualifies them for a greater monthly check in various benefit systems, for instance, Veterans Benefits.

"Housebound" should be distinguished from "house arrest:" the first arises from illness or disability, the second from action by the state. Perhaps the most famous victim of house arrest in recent times is Aung San Suu Kyi, political dissident in Burma, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Not long ago the military dictatorship freed her from confinement.
