Do you use them?

For example, I am talking to someone on ZOOM and suddenly someone rings the bell at my door. Can I say?

- Sorry, I need to step away for a moment to see who has just come.
or
- Sorry, I need to step out for a moment to see who has just come.

Your "step away" sentence would be more normal, but the "step out" sentence would not be wrong, especially if you literally had to leave the room where you were chatting on Zoom to answer the door.
