The phrase "as much" is used in expressions such as 'I thought as much' and 'I guessed as much' after you have just been told something and you want to say that you already believed or expected it to be true. The expression conveys the sense of "so".

The expression 'I thought as much' conveys a sense similar to "I thought so". The phrase is an adverb phrase.

No, it's not the object of "thought", but a modifier of its, hence an adverbial phrase.
