pigeonhole

(verb) Treat or classify according to a mental stereotype.

Synonyms: stereotype, stamp

Usage: It would be incorrect to pigeonhole her as a children's author, since many adults also enjoy her books.

Pigeon-hole also means one of a series of small, open compartments in a desk.

They are actually quite amazing! I hope the pigeons appreciate all the effort (even if it is to get them eaten!)
