If a person is commenting on the phone what they are doing while speaking which tense should be used?
1 I am going up stairs. I am heading to your room. I am opening the door. I am looking for the keys. or 2 I go upstairs. I head to your room. Etc.

In your question, you used "is commenting", "are doing".
You didn't use the present simple in your question - there is no reason to think the person on the phone would use the present simple, either.

At the same time commentators comment on sport games using the present simple. So, maybe it's also possible?
