Is 'lag' opposite of 'lead' or mean 'delay'? Does 'lag' only refer to time?

Lag has several meanings which you can see here.

https://www.thefreedictionary.com/Lag

One of those meanings is to fail to keep pace with, to struggle to keep up.
I have a congenital foot deformity and nerve damage so my walking pace is slower than many people in groups I often lag behind.
Lag isn’t the equivalent of delay if someone lags behind it may cause a delay.
But if also has other meanings as you can see if you read the dictionary definitions.
It can mean to cover a pipe with insulation to prevent heat loss, or to keep cold things from getting warm.
a lag is another term for a convict often called an old lag if they have spent a long time behind bars.

So lag doesn’t only refer to time.
