Justice

From Old French justice
From Latin iustitia

Quote:
iūstus (feminine iūsta, neuter iūstum, comparative iūstior, superlative iūstissimus); first/second-declension adjective

just, righteous
lawful, legal
justified, merited, well-deserved
(figurative) exact, straight, direct

Replaced Old English rihtwisnes
= Right + wise (way) + ness.

Cognate with Icelandic réttvísi

Which gives English two words- and the diffence is important.

To quote from The Winslow Boy:
Quote:
No, not justice - right. It's easy to do justice. Very hard to do right.
