Early morning in the open
Walked sir Charlie Pick.
On a sudden on his topper
Fell a random brick.

Is "topper" an appropriate word here? Does it work like "a top hat"?
Does "in the open" work like "in the field"?
Does "random" work here like it does in "a random bullet"?

Sorry for multiple questions.

Thanks!

In the open, yes it works like in a field it means outsiders
Topper is an informal word for top hat.
Yes a random brick works like a random bullet.

"In the open" does, as Sarries says, mean outdoors: but is most commonly used to mean out in the fields, or moors; in the countryside. The term is also used in hunting where you try to 'flush' the prey from the cover of bushes & trees. They are easier to shoot (with either a camera or a rifle) 'in the open'

However, it does just literally mean "outside" rather than "indoors". So Sir ('Sir' is his title and takes a capital letter) Pick could have just emerged from his front door when the brick fell on him from his own chimney.

A slight typo there.
“It means outside” not outsiders that’s something very different.
