"He occupied a spacious house alongside three resident English factors, Robert Lion, Miles Dickonson and Edmond Mastidge."

According to this sentece, did they live in the same house, or in the same neighbourhood?

It sounds like they each have a house - their houses are next to his house.

If they lived in the same house, I would say:
"He occupied a spacious house along with three resident English factors, Robert Lion, Miles Dickonson and Edmond Mastidge."

If the had housemates he would occupy the house along with them.
That is the action.

But this describes the location of the house
He occupied the house (which was) alongside them.
