In a BBC programme came across a sentence That looks like a down right good time. What does down mean here?

It's not well written: it's "downright", not "down right".

Sorry, cross-posted with Frosty x Rime

Also, to me it feels an unusual way to put it.
But I agree totally, it is just an intensifier.

Kira100 may have written down right, but have they transcribed what they heard correctly or was it subtitles on the screen?
Even then some subtitles are wrong.

In context downright as Frosty X Rime and pjharvey suggest seems logical.
Kira could you tell us which program this was? I may be able to check iPlayer if it’s on there.

I agree.
This is a very common intensifier used in the Southern part of the U.S., mainly by rural folks.

"You did a downright fine job on that".

"That's a downright good huntin' dog you have there".

"That's a downright fine automobile".

Yeah, it is all one word and a common method of showing emphasis.

As for a programme, I'm sorry, it was just a comment to a programme, so it's written by someone who could be in a hurry etc. Thank you again)
