Have you heard anyone use this word in ordinary conversation?

Not even in extraordinary conversation. Or ever. 'Insuperable' is quite common though eg 'this problem is not insuperable' but never 'this problem is superable'.

'SUPERABLE" is an unusual word, probably because it is fraught with 'ambiguity'. If spoken or written carelesly, it can become "super-able", which is the exact opposite of the 'surmountable' intent. 'Surmountable' is a much more elegant, unambiguous word which most should prefer. Likewise, the word 'insuperable' is quite common and unambiguous, and in turn can be elgantly used in a 'double-negative way ... "not-insuperable". Definitely superable is a word we can do without, a word to avoid
