He who laughs at himself never runs out of things to laugh at.

Does it mean he would laugh at everything?

Not everything, just what he finds laughable.

Gods and such made up things in what many believe in.

Vipin -

Read it carefully - WHO will always have something to laugh at?

People who laugh at themselves, yeah?

So WHY would people who laugh at themselves always have something to laugh at? You have to make that connection!

Also - this is not something that only applies to men. It applies to everyone. So rather than the awkward "S/he who laughs at her/himself never runs out of things to laugh at." (Very clumsy sentence!) it's easier to make it plural:

"Those who laugh at themselves never....."
"People who laugh at themselves never..."

No. Very simply, it means that, because we all are continually making mistakes and errors, if we just look at the history of our own actions, we will always have something to laugh at .

I don't have to look at my history Not talking - I make myself laugh umpteen times a day.

I also tell myself jokes - which I find enormously funny and can sometimes make me laugh out loud. (Though I'm careful of not doing it in public).Learning to laugh at oneself and the absolute arses most of us make of ourselves every day, means never having to worry about what people think of us.Dancing

If you amuse yourself, and can find the ridiculous element in all the dramas of your life, it helps to have a laugh. And most of us (Or perhaps its only me?) do enough daft things to keep ourselves happy all day!Dancing Dancing

Nope - I do daft things regularly (and FounDit does, though he says it more formally: ". . .we all are continually making mistakes and errors").

If one can laugh at one's own mistakes, there is always a new mistake to laugh at.

The other day the dog's lead tangled between my feet and I went crashing into the pavement. I was giggling later about how we always jump up and say "I'm fine! I'm fine"! no matter how we've been affected, because we feel such fools.

But someone said "Oh, I also feel kinda stupid - but I always cheer up by thinking " Well hey! At least I gave people a good larf today!" so now I shall always keep that in mind in case it happens again!
