Bob Hope (1903)

Famous for his "ski-jump" nose, superb timing, and irreverent attitude, Hope was an immensely popular American comedian. He debuted in vaudeville in the 1920s and later performed on radio, television, stage, and in more than 50 films. He hosted the Oscars a record-breaking 17 times over 38 years. A master of comic monologues and mildly bawdy one-liners, he was a tireless entertainer of US troops overseas. When asked on his deathbed at age 100 where he wanted to be buried, how did he respond? On the way to glory…

In 1940, Paramount started work on "The Road to Mandalay" , a work bringing together Bob Hope, Bing CrosbyBing Crosby and singer-dancer Dorothy LamourDorothy Lamour . The film, renamed "The Road to Singapore" was so successful that, from 1940 to 1952, it was followed by five avatars. The trio is then known worldwide.

But his career as a film actor was not really at the origin of great masterpieces. However, he shot a small number of comedies, without ambition, but still attractive. Besides the “En route…” series , no one has forgotten “Paleface / Pale face” … and his son ! Admittedly, humor, always of situation (in the cinema because on the radio it was of course quite otherwise), is typically American, but the talent and the personality of Bob did the rest. We can also make a connection between Bob Hope and Bing CrosbyFernandel . Interested parties thought about it before us, since, on the initiative of the American, the two men were reunited in 1958 in "In Paris both" .

However, moviegoers should note that the best known element of his filmography remains may be "The Greatest Show on Earth / Sous le plus grand marquee du monde" , a film in which he only makes a short appearance.

Television also offered him the opportunity to present numerous shows .

"I grew up with six brothers. That's how I learned to dance - waiting for the bathroom."
