Malcolm X (1925)

Malcolm X was an African-American activist. His home was burned by the KKK when he was a child, and he joined the Nation of Islam in prison as an adult. Upon his release in 1952, he renounced his "slave name," Little, and took the surname X, representing his lost African ancestral surname. He became a minister and soon rose to prominence campaigning for black separatism, but he publicly broke with the militant Black Muslims in 1964 after a pilgrimage to Mecca. Malcolm X (1925 - 1965)

The half-breed son of a Boston-based Baptist preacher, Malcolm Little is first of all a petty criminal delinquent who prides himself on dating white women and tries to integrate into the Boston underworld.

After several stays in prison, he joined in 1952 "Nation of Islam" , a small group led by Elijah Muhammad then Louis Farrakhan. This movement advocates the creation of an African-American nation in the South of the United States, develops racist theses and does not shy away from violence.

He himself converted to Islam and changed his name to the enigmatic X . He also convinces boxing champion Cassius Clay to follow his example as Muhammad Ali . He also developed a friendship with the crooner Sam Cooke. Rival of Elvis Presley , it is the first American black to reach the hit-parade of the song with successes like A wonderful world ; he was killed by a thug in Los Angeles on December 11, 1964, at the age of 33.
