If a man look sharply and attentively, he shall see Fortune; for though she be blind, yet she is not invisible. Francis Bacon (1561-1626)

I'm sorry, but every time I see that image of Bacon, I think of my old neck injury.

I am reminded of The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast Of Traal, that assumes if it can't see you, you can't see it. Daft as a brush, but Very Ravenous.

I always connect Francis Bacon with the modern portrait artist, with the screwed up art and even more screwed up life. And a little bit of Roger Bacon thrown in for historical purposes (who is then conjoined thematically with the Venerable Bede). With or without the ruff, all that mental association it makes it very difficult for me to take him seriously as Francis Bacon the philosopher...! [image not available] [image not available]
