An EPIRB is an electronic signalling device which should, in the event of capsize, float free and emit a signal to alert the relevant authorities to the emergency. The Life raft should also float free in the event of capsize.

Go kaput!

Quote:
capsize (v.)
"to turn over, overturn," 1780 (transitive); 1792 (intransitive), a nautical word of obscure origin, perhaps (as Skeat suggests) from Spanish capuzar "to sink by the head," from cabo "head," from Latin caput "head" (from PIE root *kaput- "head").
For sense, compare French chavirer "to capsize, upset,"
faire capot "capsize;"
Provençal cap virar "to turn the head."

German
Quote:

Kaputt
Borrowed from French être capot (“to be defeated”).

kaputt (comparative kaputter, superlative am kaputtesten)

broken
out of order

English kaput
Quote:
From German kaputt, perhaps via Yiddish קאַפּוט‎ (kaput, “lost, dead”)
