..
The key word is "pinch". That requires pressure.
All of the scenes where Mr. Spock and others
used the Vulcan nerve pinch , you could
see there was pressure applied. Mr. Spock offered
to train others in its use , so it was not a
Vulcan-only method. As those in tv production will
tell you , there is an ongoing evolution of ideas ,
and then the honing of those original ideas , as time goes on.
If the idea of energy from Vulcan fingertips was the original
idea , I'm grateful they turned into a more logical approach. :)

Turns out former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has more in common with Star Trek's Mr. Spock than might be apparent: A rapper named Skylar Gordy claims that the erstwhile Massachusetts governor tried to use Spock's Vulcan nerve pinch on him during a flight from Vancouver to Los Angeles.

That's the report on Trek Movie, as related in the following videos from the Associated Press and TMZ.com.

Romney was reportedly involved in an altercation with Skylar Gordy, one half of the rap band LMFAO, TrekMovie reports.

Should someone tell Gov. Romney that the Vulcan grip only works if you're an actual Vulcan?

"..... to render an opponent unconsciousness by pinching the subclavian .....".
Correctly transposed this would read as follows: "..... to render an opponent conscious by pinching the subclavian .....".
