Rebels Tighten Hold on Libyan Capital

Amid reports that Libyan rebels have taken control of much of the country’s capital, US president Barack Obama voiced his belief that Muammar al-Gaddafi’s regime is coming to an end. Rebel leaders also claimed to have captured a few of Gaddafi’s sons, including his heir apparent Seif al-Islam, who faces prosecution for crimes against humanity, but he was later seen freely meeting with supporters. World leaders have urged Gaddafi to step down and end the bloodshed, but fighting has continued in many parts of the city. Still it appears that the six-month-long civil war is nearing its end. NATO's mandate was to protect the civilians and manage the no fly zone but it ended up fighting a proxy war for USA and for the Libyan rebels. Seems to me this mission creep is the crudest way to spread democracy.
