Right or wronrg?
Welcome Joaquin.
Well, I suppose starting a sentence with "so" can be overdone. So can starting a sentence with the word "well". But native speakers, including me, have been starting sentences with "so" for many years.
However, what you have written is not a complete sentence when you have a conditional clause with the word "if" and no follow through. So you should change it and then the word "so"would be fine.
For example - So if I say the book is very simple, that would be an oversimplification. :)
So if you want to sound like a native speaker, by all means ignore that advice. And check its source.
(I corrected a couple of typos in your question.)
