Why do you keep posting the initial quotation? I think it defines experience as the capacity to learn from our mistakes and recognize them as such. Of course, the figures of speech make Bierce's definition unique!

There's plenty of people in the world who don't seem to be doing so. Quoting Shaw, If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience.
