Old, Northamptonshire.

A village was first recorded there in 1068 - but it was already in existence at that time.
The village name has evolved from Walda to Wolde, to Wold and now to Old.

Upminster, Havering, London.

The easternmost part of the East End of London.

First noted as a farmstead in Roman times (around 50AD) - then a village, then a town.
It became known for the Minster, St Laurence's church - which was and is situated on higher ground than the surroundings (at 200 feet above sea level)- the Upp Minster, or high church. Upmynstre.
In the Domesday book it was Uppmunstra.
