Hi,

Are the following sentences natural to a native ear?

1. Can I squeez by/ behind you to put this dish into the dishwasher?

2. We have ran out of these folders.

3. Where did you get smacked? ( where on your body)

Thanks,
MG.

Not 100 % native but I guess I can leave my opinion here. To me they all sound correct, even though I'd rather use "We ran out of " in the second sentence.

Then I'd rather point out the actual "usage" of these sentences. You'd never say "Can I squeeze behind you to put this dish into the dishwasher". People would rather use "Sorry, I'd like to put this in the dishwasher"

"Where did you get smacked" "Where were you hurt" sounds better to me but okay.

Hi MG

Your sentences sound good, but I would make the following points:
1. I would say "squeeze past" somebody, and it is a phrase I use and hear used a lot (I'm a BE speaker)

2. I would say "we have run out" or "we ran out". I don't know why - something grammatical like perfect/imperfect tenses i think.

3. I don't think it's incorrect but I wouldn't use get. I would say "Where were you smacked" Or "Where did he smack you" Smack is probably a bit of an informal word as well.

Hope this is helpful

ok but 2 one grammatical mistake
we ran out of
or
we have run out of - which sounds right.

and you are right to explain where - it can mean anatomically or geographically
you could put it in the sentence to make it clear
where on your body did you get smacked?
