A few days ago I was going on my usual rant about uselessness of marriage and jokingly described myself as a misogamist, to which my cousin used a word to describe what she thought I was more likely to become. The dictionary definition was - A man who foolishly dotes on his wife.

Can any one give that word? It was not meacock.
Thanks in advance.

To Rusty: Could the word possibly be uxorious?

p.s. I think it is wonderful when a husband and wife blissfully "dotes" upon each other. :) I a think one should treat their husband as if he were
KING, and his wife should be his QUEEN. :)

If your wife is cheating and you still dote perhaps " cuckold " is the word.

ex,
Don't be so cynical! Something good do exist! Bless those with happy families and wear on the shoes of those who got imcomplete love and care. Well...I am a stupid optimist!

Is there such a thing as a soul connection that translates into telepathy? Too risky?

Misogamist -- Intense hatred for marriage. Not to be confused with misogynist -- be careful.

Meacock -- An uxorious, effeminate, or spiritless man. Not to be confused with my cock Silenced

uxorious -- A man in which his football and beer friends would be looking for a uxorcist or a shrink Liar

Guys, guys come on, when did your world become so cynical?! I have a word for a man that dotes on his wife...how about a partnership? My reasoning - well, if he dotes on her it's probably because she dotes on him! Dancing

Ah, but the phrase in the OP is " foolishly dotes ", which is a long way from a mutual partnership.

@ wercozy : the last thing guys are looking for is any kind of shrinkage !

Ok Ex, point taken - a partnership as, if he foolishly dotes on his wife, his wife more than likely foolishly dotes on him!!!Whistle

One should love one's wife. No matter she is beautiful or not. The most important thing that makes your wife loveable is her SINCERITY. If she stands by you through thick and thin you must dote on her. If she does not, just kick her out.

To Excaelis:

Your post reminds me of my sister who just got glasses. I was sitting with two of my other sisters, and when she came back from the ladies room all powdered up, she says: "You know, I think these new glasses make my boobs look bigger"... We all started laughing and making comments like: "Ohhh yeah! They're waaay biggggger...." "Yeah we all should get a pair."

Thank you all for replies.
@ Marissa: I thought about uxorious and she insists this was the word she used, but i think the word had sometihng like a 'ist' as in misogamist at the end.

I have searched the entire web for ' a man who foolishly dotes on his wife' but found nothing. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me.

Uxorious, which has already been named, is the word you are searching for.

Maritorious, a rare word, means excessively fond of one's husband.

Rusty, maybe this site could be of help to find a word with a suffix -ist you are looking for. Beside of searching for any word starting or ending with given letter(s), or containing particular number of letters, you can also check definitions and explanations of needed phrases there. Actually, I'm at the beginning of the extremely long list, but if I find out something, I'll post my answer. ;-)

Frank is the name that describes a man who dotes on his wife. Lover and companion are good words, too.

The thousand words is impressive.
But I hope their brave and passionate love would be expressed under a "dress up" form.

Here is a picture of my sister and her husband when they were first married; and here is one of the them taken about a year ago after twenty-four years of marriage in which Larry looks blissfully "pussy-whipped" if you ask me.:)
