Unless you're married, in which case you can only conceal it for so long.

Everyone has a dark side and the rest of us - its dark spots... Yeah, that's the spot.

Doesn't your statement depends on the degree of happiness of the marriage?

Yeah, there is just a far side, from Earth.
Which gets just as much light as the near side (or even very slightly more, as it never gets eclipsed by the Earth).
So it is all relative to who you are showing it to. Whistle

One more Pudd'nhead Wilson quotation from " Following the Equator"

Chapter 66

Every one is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.

And Twain knows "everyone"?

Yes, everyone can become a bit manichean in his own way. There is always this dualistic nature to us whether we admit it or not.

Being a moon is typical of wanting to believe that we are not the only ones hiding something.
But if everyone were a moon, what's the point of hiding the so-called dark side?

Dark side under wraps, to better blindside perhaps?
Or dark side kept out of sight, to spare another the slight?

Pieter, my comment was not intended as sarcasm towards the institution of marriage (though I do generally love sarcasm). It was instead intended to reveal the simple fact that we can wear "masks" in other social settings and places like work, and these masks enable us to succeed in those environments. In a marriage, however, there are no masks because the nature of the relationship is too intimate. In other words, in that familiar context, there is no place to hide the real you.

And I am happily married by the way (for over 25 years).

"Everyone" and "never" hardly ever belong together.
