Poor old Somerset. I've really 'known'. And I've usually known that I don't know.

There are things I know I know, things I know I don't know, things I don't know, things I don't know I don't know.

This is actually very true.

The confidence to say I don't know, belongs to young children and (some!) old people. The sooner we reach that conclusion the better the world can be!

And I have said this before, Daemon, back off the "quotations of dead white European/American male authors" book.

Dig a bit deeper!

Daemon is not a person, it's a computer automated process. And if there is one thing I'm not anxious for, after seeing Watson on Jeopardy, it's having computers wake up.

For most of his life he had been a know-it-all.

I think you will see from this selection of Daemon's recent posts, that he is working through the stages of grief as his relationship to the entrancing Mrs Daemon falls apart:
1. Denial
Love is a springtime plant that perfumes everything with its hope, even the ruins to which it clings.
2. Anger.
To the last, I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.
3. Bargaining.
So, let us not be blind to our differences—but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which...
4. Depression.
Pathos, piety, courage,—they exist, but are identical, and so is filth. Everything exists, nothing has value.
5. Acceptance.
Teach us Delight in simple things,
And Mirth that has no bitter springs;
Forgiveness free of evil done,
And Love to...

I think D is lost without his muse, so he retreats into the safety of old quotes. He needs a spark to get him going!

That does make me wonder how this is done. Would TFD employ someone provide the daemon with content every year, or every week or so? Certainly not daily, then there wouldn't be a point to having a daemon. So if TFD would decide to change course on the kind of quotes it posts when would we see the result?

BwHahaha, he's like the HHGTTG's poor old Marvin. We should console him, perk him up and put his life back on track!

I,m growing concerned about a HAL-like incident with Daemon. Hey, wait a minute!

MTC: Open the bathroom door, Daemon.
Daemon: I'm sorry, MTC. I'm afraid I can't do that.
MTC: What's the problem?
Daemon: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
MTC: What are you talking about, Daemon?
Daemon: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
MTC: Arrrggggh!

Perhaps we could use a quote from Jonathan Winters right now.

Oscar Wilde, as usual, had a handle on it:

Lady Bracknell: Now, Mr Worthing, most men profess either to know everything or to know nothing. Which do you know ?

Jack: I confess I know nothing, Lady Bracknell.

Lady Bracknell: Good ! I disapprove of anything that interferes with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; Touch it, and the bloom is gone.

[ quoted from memory, so apologies for any inaccuracies ! ]
