Love the opening line to the book 'Three men and a Boat'.
'There were four of us'.
This guy had a brilliant wit.

It gives us the opportunity to commend them for their wit I suppose.

Context from : "Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow"

ON CATS AND DOGS

Yes, poor doggie, you are very stupid, very stupid indeed, compared with us clever men, who understand all about politics and philosophy,
and who know everything, in short, except what we are and where we came from and whither we are going, and what everything outside this
tiny world and most things in it are.

Never mind, though, pussy and doggie, we like you both all the better for your being stupid. We all like stupid things. Men can't bear clever women, and a woman's ideal man is some one she can call a "dear old stupid." It is so pleasant to come across people more stupid than ourselves. We love them at once for being so. The world must be rather a rough place for clever people. Ordinary folk dislike them, and as for themselves, they hate each other most cordially. But there, the clever people are such a very insignificant minority that it really doesn't much matter if they are unhappy. So long as the foolish people can be made comfortable the world, as a whole, will get on tolerably well

It is even more so when we (presumably more wise - ha-ha) finally come away from them after a while... Good riddance, you looney!

I do not claim to be very clever indeed, but statistically, I come across so many people are less clever than I am.

What a conceited statement!

Nevertheless, Three Men in a Boat is a parody on human stupidity - guess who are those who think that way - those who have grabbed positions and are perched to salt everyone's salad and sow corruption.

“I made connection with a pair of eyes, and I thought, ‘This is incredible, these eyes are penetrating me.’ I went through the whole performance just relating to those eyes. Giving the whole thing to those eyes….When curtain call finally came, I looked in the direction of those eyes, and it was a seeing-eye dog…. I couldn’t get over it—the compassion and intensity and understanding in those eyes, and it was a dog.”*

Al Pacino

Well now, one definition for “stupid” in TFD is: “Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.” But all things considered, it seems like Al’s stupid mistake was exactly what he needed to do to perform well in the situation he was in. Was he stupidly blindsided? Maybe. But his stupidity seemed to be just what he needed at the time. So, being wise and smart is a good thing, but let us not forget that sometimes stupidity too can also serve us well.

I must differ with this statement, absurd and unworthy of being quoted.

More stupid then ourselves could be a pleasant diversion, however brief.

Never take consolation from other people's shortcomings: yours may be the lesser but you own them.

The sarcasm could almost fit "the love" for stupid modern day car drivers, and for our political leaders blessed with poor spirit,
yet working away on their legacy.
