I don't have a problem with that. I used to have to supervise a group of workers and was always finding out that they would clock in at 7:30am and check their email, do their hair, go get breakfast off the premises and then start to actually work at 8:00am or thereabouts. They would check their Facebook accounts during the day. My boss did the math and found out how much he was paying for their free time and threatened to fire anyone who continued doing it. It worked for a little while.

What worked better was telling them he could legally access their emails accessed during company time. No one minds you taking a quick look at your bank account or answering a text from your kid but doing it all day while at work is stealing. If it was your pocket this money was coming from you'd feel the same way.

This (TFD) is the ONLY Internet site to which I have access at work. I guess you could say you have a captive audience... Boo hoo!

All the network traffic through your company's routers CAN be uncovered by packet sniffer software. Another thing is how legal it is in different countries and how many employer will put efforts (some human resource - the software can be free) to do that.

Years back in a company I was working my boss put me to evaluate some packet sniffers. After a couple of weeks' studying and testing I gave the reports revealing among other interesting stats that the company lawyers and managers spent a lot of their time in porn and other queer sites. My boss took the report to present it to executive team. While they had the palaver I uninstalled all the sniffers and that was exactly what my boss ordered me to do after the meeting.
