Andy Warhol (1928)

Warhol, one of the most influential artists of the late 20th century, was the leading exponent of the pop art movement. Andy Warhol is shot by Valerie Solanas in 1968

Detective Frederick Stepat and policewoman McCarthy escort Valeria Solanas, 28, into 13th pct, for the shooting Andy Warhol. Valerie surrendered to a cop in Times Square, allegedly admitting to the shooting, and saying, "I am a flower child."

Andy Warhol, 36-year-old pop artist, maker of underground movies and darling of the avant-garde set, was critically wounded at 4:30 p.m. yesterday when one of his female film stars barged into his sixth-floor Union Square office and, without a word, fired a barrage of bullets at Warhol and a business associate.

He could possibly be described as a psychopath, but his art was genius. He was an amazing marketer of himself & his work.
